When we use the word "believe," sometimes we say "believe that" and sometimes we say "believe in."  These two uses have different meanings.

For example: I believe that there is a God" means you agree that he exists, but it does not indicate any particular relatonship to him.

If you say, "I believe in Jesus" it means you are placing your trust in Jesus; you are depending on him.
