Table Discussions.
Select Leader who will decide when to move to next section. Choose the person whose birthday is closest to July 4.
Introduce one another and then tell about some place in your home where you felt relaxed and at peace as a child.
Bible Basis. Please read Colossians 1:20. (printed on back). According to the verse, what did Christ make through his blood shed on the cross? ____.
The focus of today’s discussion is: since Jesus has already made peace, why is it that we do not always experience peace, and the approach is that bringing peace into our personal experience can be solidly based on the fact that Jesus has already provided peace.
Personalize. The following questions are meant to personalize the topic for one another. First read all the questions, and then talk about any of them (it is not necessary to talk about all of them).
Questions: Even though you know that Jesus has provided peace, have you found it to be true that Christians do not always experience peace? How many words can you think of that are the opposite of the word peace? (or, if you are not experiencing peace, what are you probably experiencing?) Which of those words relate to your personal experience? Under what circumstances have you found peace eluding you? When you are not experiencing peace, how does it affect your likelihood of being God’s instrument of love and care to others? (discussion time about peace in your life)
God’s Word. For each verse, write what is promised and what action on our part is involved in bringing the promise into experience.
Based on what you discovered about “involvement,” what practical steps can you take when you are assaulted with a lack of peace? Summary. Based on the verses above, I think God’s will for me is … (This may be different for each person)
Insight. What is there about me that keeps me from doing this? (This will provide insight into your sin nature, including deliberate sin or area of weakness.)
Christ. How He is the answer to the particular areas surfaced above. (This will include forgiveness for the past, and living in you to change you for next time)
Future. Promises to rely on next time the problem comes up. John 16:33, John 14:27
