Seeing Jesus as the Savior

Our relationship to God is possible because of
     A.  Who Jesus is, and
     B.  What Jesus did.

A.  Who Jesus is.

Read Hebrews 1:1-3.  Jesus is the exact image of whom? (1) _____
Jesus was involved in creating what? (2) _____
Before he "sat down", Jesus solved what problem? (3) _____
(Jesus is called "savior" because he "saved" people from sin.)

NOTE.  Jesus is related to God, in the same way that light is related to the sun.  There is no difference between what light is made out of and what the sun is made out of.  The light comes from the sun, and makes it possible for us to know about the sun.  In the same way, Jesus comes out from God, and Jesus makes it possible for us to know about God.

Read Romans 1:3-4.  The fact that Jesus is God is made clear because Jesus did what? (4) _____
The fact that Jesus was a descendant of David makes clear that Jesus is not only God, but is also (5)  _____

NOTE.  It is important that Jesus is both God and man:
1.  If Jesus were not man, could he die for our sins? (6) _____
2.  If Jesus were not God, could His death have enough value to take care of the problem of sin? (7) _____

B.  What Jesus did.

Read Romans 5:19.  The first man mentioned is Adam, who was the first one to sin.  The second man mentioned is Jesus.  We did not obey God, so what did Jesus do so that God would accept us? (8) _____  ("righteous" means "nothing wrong with us.")

Read Philippians 2:5-11.  In verse 8, what did Jesus do out of obedience?  (9) _______

Read 1 Peter 2:24.  What did Jesus bear in His body? (10) _____

Read 1 John 2:1-2.  The concept in verse 2 is called "atonement."  The meaning is that punishment for sin is taken away through a blood sacrifice.  How many sins did Jesus pay for?  (11) ______

Read Revelation 5:9.  This song is about Jesus.  What did Jesus do so that all these people could belong to God? (12) _____

Read 2 Corinthians 4:14.  What did Jesus do to prove that He has the ability to give eternal life to you?  (13) ______
