VIII. COLLEGE CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION:

In this course, the student will learn to listen sympathetically, analyze critically, and respond appropriately to selected religions and their worldviews from a Lutheran theological perspective.

IX.  INSTRUCTOR'S COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Of the many different responses which Christians have made to the religions of the world, ranging from persecution to non-judgmental acceptance, this course will emphasize the response of Christian love expressed through sharing Christ.  The primary goal is that each student will grow in the ability to converse about Christ with individuals of the various religions of the world, in terms likely to be understood.  Secondary goals are learning about current missionary strategies, examining one's own motivations and attitudes in order to gauge how to fit into such strategies, coming to appreciate the challenges that Christians around the world have in living as a minority religion and in attempting to win their countrymen, and forming a framework for life-long learning about these things.

XII.  INSTRUCTOR'S EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY:

Grading will be based on the student's demonstration of cognitive and skill accomplishments, but not on affective change or spiritual level.   The student earns a grade by the quality of the work completed.  It is the instructor's part to recognize and record what the student has earned.  Meanwhile, the instructor's relationship is like a coach, helping everyone to do as well as possible, and providing encouragement.
