Saving Methods for Philosophical Hinduism

Since the Hindu God does not reveal himself in creation in this form of Hinduism, I would not talk about creation as such. Instead I would try to approach it from the standpoint of the fact that the Hindu does believe that God exists. I might try to engage him in talk about his concept of God, and then say something like, ”You believe that there is something other than the world you see. We also believe there is a God we can’t see with our eyes right now, but we have found a way to know that God. Would you be interested in a clear way to know God? ……..We can know about God clearly by learning to know Jesus.  (From KB, 2/01)

If I were to bring up salvation, I think that a  philosophical Hindu would think I was talking about the way to Moksha, the way to be liberated from the cycle of rebirth. This is done through attaining the higher knowledge leading to direct insight that all is one in Brahman, attaining the knowledge which will bring release from the cycle of rebirth. (from KB, 2/01)

To the Hindu in this case, the problem is not sin and his need to find a savior who will save him from his sin. The problem as he sees it is his need for knowledge that will  set him free from the cycle of rebirth. I would not talk about a sense of sin, because that might not be the most useful concept in showing him the nature of God here. It seems to me that he is searching for freedom through knowledge. I might begin by talking about his search for knowledge, and then mention that he believes that knowledge will set him free. Then I might say something like, “I know that you are seeking to know God. You believe that the knowledge of God will set you free. We also seek to know God. In our scripture we have a saying. It goes like this. ”You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." ” Would you like to know about the truth that can make you free?  (From KB, 2/01)
