| Felt needs for the Sikh
Working with the idea of community may provide an opening for the Christian, since this is such an important aspect of Sikh history and practice. Some helpful images to consider here might be the church as the body of Christ and the new Israel; these convey the idea of the church as a worldwide community, an idea that is integral to Sikhism. Moreover, the fullness of Christian community may be seen in these words of Jesus: “For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother” (Matt. 12:50). The Christian must be careful here not to convey the idea that Christian community supplants Sikh community. (TW 4/01)
